Volunteer Reception Center Exercise

On March 15, 2025 a Volunteer Reception Center (VRC) training and exercise was held. This was planned with the following partners:

· Medina County Emergency Management Agency

· Medina County Health Department

· EMA Communications Unit

· Community Emergency Response Team (CERT)

· Medical Reserve Corps (MRC)

· Ohio Military Reserve

· Cornerstone Chapel, Medina

A VRC is a location used to process large numbers of affiliated and unaffiliated/spontaneous volunteers during an emergency, such as severe weather, active shooter, or large-scale accident. During an incident or emergency that requires support from the community (volunteers), a VRC is used to process and place volunteers with agencies requesting assistance.

Today’s exercise demonstrates the collaboration of local partners and residents to ensure community response and recovery. All emergencies and response are truly local. Local resources are first on any scene, and conducting these types of exercises creates an opportunity to hone skills and communication in a safe, non-emergency situation.
